Anti-Ice Action - Asheville

It couldn’t happen here… I watched as large scale ICE and DHS operations occurred in Chicago in September. I had no concept of how this would escalate nationally. Closer to home, ICE carried out similar tactics in Charlotte, North Carolina. The images out of Charlotte were horrific, and there was real fear that something similar could happen in Asheville. A small city in Appalachia with radical groups would be an easy target. While this never transpired, something much worse occurred in Minneapolis; these operations led to the state sanctioned killings of two U.S. citizens.

I grabbed my camera for two separate events. The first was a STOP ICE TERROR on January 8th, 2026 after the killing of Renee Good. This event was loosely organized by the Western North Carolina chapter of the Party For Socialism and Liberation. Local news outlets estimate 2,000 people attended.

The second event was a vigil for Alex Pretti organized by registered nurses at Mission Hospital held on January, 28th, 2026 . This event hosted talks by local labor unions, community organizers and local clergy.
